The 30th Street Station Steam Heating Plant in Philadelphia falls at 7:48a on November 15, 2009. The steam plant was constructed by the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1929 to provide heat for skyscraper development between Broad Street Station and 30th Street. The plant's construction not only signified PRR's entry into the urban land development business, but also established 30th Street Station as Philadelphia's intercity rail hub and relegated Broad Street Station to commuter service. The plant was listed on the National Register of Historic Places for its key role in developing Market Street as Philadelphia's premier high-rise office corridor. Amtrak's 30th Street Yard is in the foreground, followed by CSX's High Line, SEPTA's commuter rail yard, and Drexel University dorms.
