Welcome to SteamPhotos.com!
Although steam locomotives all but disappeared from regular service on North American railroads by 1960, there are approximately 300 operational steam engines in the U.S. today. Some are run in daily service at tourist railroads and theme parks. Others make less frequent appearances for private charters, holiday trains, community festivals, and publicity events.
My interest in steam train photography began in 2005 and, after visiting dozens of railroads from coast-to-coast, I launched SteamPhotos.com in 2007. Whether or not you're a photographer or railroad enthusiast, I hope you enjoy the scenic beauty, raw power, and historical significance of steam railroading as portrayed in these photos. While this site is focused on steam trains, I photograph a wide variety of railroad subjects and will soon include galleries of modern freight and passenger trains, as well as railroad structures including bridges, tunnels, and stations.
A range of prints (sizes 4x6" to 24x36"), calendars, and gifts (mugs, puzzles, and mousepads) are available for secure online purchase. All prints are produced by a professional lab using Kodak papers. High-resolution digital photos are also available by request. For details, please see the Prints & Gifts Page.
I donate 20% of all SteamPhotos.com sales to non-profit organizations dedicated to the preservation of steam railroading, including both historical societies and operating entities.
Thanks for visiting,
Christopher Muller
