Present day photos of abandoned railroad tunnels, including Sand Patch Tunnel (photos 1-6), Haskell Pass Tunnel (7-8), Nehalem Divide Tunnel (9-21), Oxford Tunnel (22-25), Manunka Chunk Tunnel (26-30), Alpine Tunnel (31-36), and Atlantic Avenue Tunnel (37-44).
Oxford Tunnel - Oxford, New Jersey
A present day view from the center of the abandoned 2996 foot long Oxford Tunnel on the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western mainline. The Lackawanna Cut-Off opened in 1911, spelling the end to most freight and passenger service on this original route. Track was removed in the early 1950s, and today a stream runs through the tunnel from west (Oxford) to east (Washington). A collapse in the center results in two feet deep water at the western end.
