Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad - Mineral, Washington
Photos from October 2014, featuring Hammond Lumber Company 2-8-2T #17 (Alco built 1929) and Rayonier #2 (Willamette 1929). The Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad (MRSR) has operated tourist excursions since 1981 through the foothills of Mount Rainier between Elbe and Mineral, Washington. This seven-mile route was constructed in 1905 and served as part of the Milwaukee Road's Morton Branch hauling timber to Tacoma. The non-profit MRSR operates a diverse collection of steam locomotives including Willamette (similar to Shay), Climax, and Heisler geared locomotives unique to the logging industry, as well as more common rod locomotives of regional logging railroad heritage. For more information, visit the Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad Website.
